Velvet has a pile, and looking after it is mostly about not crushing it. Spot clean with a barely damp cloth rather than washing — a machine wash flattens the pile permanently and there is no undoing it. Lift dust with a soft brush, always stroking in one direction. Store the caps on a shelf rather than folded under something heavy, and if the pile does flatten, a minute of steam held well away from the fabric will bring it back. Keep the embroidery away from perfume and hairspray.
